Can I just say that I never clicked as fast on any purchase link as I did when I got an email that they are starting to sell The Ordinary foundation. I purchased 2 shades, the fairest ones (1.0 N and 1.o NS from the coverage foundation range) and waited. The wait was long, a month! That was to be expected though… because The Ordinary is still a small company and since they got so many orders (at least 25000) at once. They were overwhelmed. Finally this week the wait was over and I got my long awaited package. So what do I think of the foundations?
The packaging is small, so tiny in fact that I checked how much product there is in the bottle compared to my Giorgio Armani Lasting Silk. They both carry 30ml but the size difference of the foundation bottles is huge. The Ordinary coverage foundation will easily fit in any plastic bag needed for the airport security check. The pump is a great addition too, the product is easily and hygienically dispensed.
Neutral. No perfume which means its great for those of us who breakout with perfumed skincare products or foundations.
I am usually the palest shade in any foundation. Nars Siberia and GA Luminous Silk no 2 are my best matches for reference. I wasn’t sure if these would be light enough. Let’s be honest, lots of foundations only do a very limited shade range and not taking into account very pale and darker skins. Although I was surprised how good the shade selection was actually.
The 1.0N leans a little bit pink but it still neutral enough to match my pretty yellow skin. With the 1.0 NS (the NS, means neutral silver highlights) I was expecting silver highlights, silver particles or a metallic sheen. Wouldn’t you? This is where I was surprised. This shade looks like normal foundation. No sheen, no nothing… I was actually looking at it for ages, waiting until it dries… Nothing. Just to see, I applied the 1.0 N on 1 half of my face and 1.0 NS on the other to take these pictures. I spent the whole day comparing them. My face looked like I was wearing the same foundation. Although when put side by side on my hand I am actually a better match with 1.0 NS since it leans a little bit more yellow. So I would translate NS as more of NY meaning neutral leaning yellow shade.
Here comes the best part! The finish is a satin/ skin like finish but it feels matte on my combination/dry skin. I absolutely love it since usually foundations that look skin like are a bit tacky to the touch. When I first applied this foundation I though that it would stay tacky but it dried down and became completely dry even without powder. I was amazed!
The foundation comes out pretty thick and 1.5 pump was enough to cover my face. I applied it with the beauty sponge and it gave me pretty full-coverage. Not like Estee Lauder Double Wear but it is definitely more than medium coverage. Because the foundation is not liquidy the sponge doesn’t eat up the product and you can enjoy super natural, high-coverage foundation with that application.
Here is a close up of my skin with the foundation on. I didn’t apply any primer.
The Ordinary foundation has really impressed me. For the price that it is it preforms like a high end foundation. It has a super wide shade range and it looks so natural on the skin. I must say it is already in the top 2 of my foundations. This foundation looks the most undetectable out of all the coverage foundations I have ever tried. Can you believe it! It is closely followed by Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk. (If you want to try that one too)
My favourite thing about this foundation is the finish. Being so dry on the skin, it doesn’t transfer and it feels light with no dry feeling.
What is your opinion about the foundation?
Other products that I absolutely love from The Ordinary are the Serum Foundation, perfect for the summer with a lighter coverage. Some of their skincare products are so amazing too! The best all rounder serum for any skin type is The Buffet. Their BHA and AHA mask is also very good to clear out pores and exfoliate the skin. It is perfect used once a week to avoid any dry patches and keep the skin breakout clean! It’s one of the best products I have tried in the past year and its super affordable.
